Sylvia Rigsby Rhodes

1941 ∼ 2023

Sylvia Rhodes passed away on December 16, 2023, at the age of 82.

She was born in Beaumont, Texas on January 18, 1941, to Haldor and Wilda Rigsby. She was a lifelong resident of Bridge City and Orange, and a 1958 graduate of Lutcher Stark High School where she was a Bengal Guard member. Sylvia had several careers including as a beautician and business owner in construction and personnel. Later she received her LVN license and was a nurse at a Beaumont facility until retiring at age seventy-five. Sylvia loved rearing her children on Cow Bayou, which became a fun and busy gathering place for family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for her crowd while they were fishing and water skiing. She was always active in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There are no words to describe the depth of our love for her and the loss we feel, even knowing she is certainly in heaven with beloved family and friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Rhoda Rhodes, Luther Rhodes (her children’s father) and good friend Kathy Block.

She is survived by spouse Frank Setters; children, Rhonda and Chuck Lomonte, Paul and Stacy Rhodes, and Rodney and Tammie Rhodes; grandchildren, Regan Lomonte, Trey and Shea Rhodes, Reese Rhodes, Sadie and Brian Mouton, Spencer and Amanda Fuss, and Toby and Crystal Fuss; great-grandchildren, Harper Rhodes, Zoey Huneycutt, Joey Fuss, Shyanne Fuss, Alisha Fuss, Rayven Fuss, Will Mouton, and Jakob Mouton; and great-great-grandchild, Alice Joy Hardy; brother, Frank and Sharon Rigsby; and sisters, Darla Pollard and Kay Brown; plus many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be scheduled in January.
