Jean and I had a great time painting together. She taught me so much about painting and different techniques. We would be up half the night painting and laughing. She had the best giggle. She was so funny she could have added comedian to her list of talents. She sang and played guitar too. Such a loving person. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Dad and Jean picked up my brother Michael and myself from a late night flight back to Texas from Washington State after a short stay with my Mom and Stepfather. I don't recall the circumstances, I was too young but I do recall the excitement of flying on a jetliner and getting back to Texas to see my Dad who I had not seen very much over the last several years. I would later find out that Jean gathered the money to pay for the plane flight, at the time she was working her day job as a recruiter and doing her country music on the nights and weekends. It was a sparse holiday but I was just too excited to see my Dad and my new Mom to even notice. Dad made sure we all had a gift and Jean made sure we all had a nice holiday meal. School started up in just a week or so and instantly Jean was in Mom mode, making lunches for us to take to school. To my surprise as I opened my sack lunch upon my first day of school in a new place admittedly feeling all alone, there was what would become an ongoing thing, a note...a poem..."roses are red, violets are blue, I'm so happy to have a new son like you. Love Mom." and much of my fears for that first day of school...were gone. She'd go on to write these random poems year after year all the way to freshman year in High School where she did her best to let the boy in me grow up. But in those early days...in the weeks that followed, she would lovingly embrace my grandmother as well bucking all the myths of any so called "step mother" or "daughter in law", Jean made it known constantly we were her family. She instilled in me, a sense of creativity, the independence to follow your dreams and an honest love for animals and the outdoors. Not all kids get a second Mom, and even fewer get one as inspirational and loving as mine. I'm not just a better person for having her in my life, I'm one of the luckiest kids in the world. Love, your son Scott.
