Ted Harper Slaughter

Ted H. Slaughter, 82, was born November 24, 1930 in Beaumont, TX to Owen and Essel Cowart Slaughter and passed away March 5, 2013 at his home. Ted was a long-time resident of Vidor and a retired supervisor from Texaco Chemical Company and Jefferson Chemical Company. He served his country with the US Navy during the Korean War. One of his major responsibilities was protecting a key radar installation on the Sea of Japan, also known as "Mig Alley", as well as performing his duties as Shore Patrol officer. Ted enjoyed boating, had a deep love for his family, and was deeply devoted to his Lord and Savior. He also served his community as a volunteer with the Jefferson County Rescue Corps.
Ted was always active in his church, was enrolled in the Cradle Class since birth and was involved in the Christian community in general. He was a founding member, trustee and builder of Harmony Baptist Church in Vidor. He joined with the Christian Builders Association to volunteer his labor and time helping enlarge a Baptist church in Jonesboro, AR.
A memorial service will take place 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home on 11th Street, Beaumont, officiated by his nephew, Pastor Michael Young of Houston.
Mr. Slaughter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolyn Caldwell Slaughter; his sons, Dale Slaughter and wife, Monique of Beaumont, Ricky Slaughter of Longview and David Slaughter and wife, Debbie of Vidor; grandchildren, Alexa Seidel, Whitney Word, Stacy Cardenas, Samantha Slaughter, Ted Slaughter and Collin Slaughter; great-grandchildren, Gage and Kaden Seidel and Christian Cardenas; his brother, Robert Slaughter of Vidor and his sister, Margie Long of Junction, TX and numerous nieces and nephews and his dog, Pud. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to the staff and nurses of Altus Hospice; Evita, Crystal, Ashlee, Stacy, Juanita, Tiffany, Robert, Teresa and Leslie for their compassion and care for PawPaw.
