Tony J. Castino, 82, of Bridge City died March 12, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Port Arthur.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Jim McClintock. Interment will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery in Nederland.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Friday and a Christian Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, both at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
He was born April 1, 1925 in Franklin, Louisiana, the son of Joseph and Annie Castino. He lived in Groves for 32 years before retiring to Bridge City in 1982. He retired from Neches Butane Refinery where he was an accountant.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Annie Battaglia Castino of Port Arthur, brother, Leon Castino of Port Arthur, sisters, Frances Hernandez of Port Arthur, Mary Turano of Groves and Mamie Mancil of Port Arthur.
Tony is survived by his wife, Mary Castino of Bridge City, three sons, Johnny Castino and wife Connie of Cheek, Joe Castino of Redlands, CA, Jimmy Castino and wife Vicki of Mauriceville, two daughters, Kathy Mercer and husband Jerry of Orange, Pam Hebert and husband Todd of Bridge City.
Also surviving are his brother Frank Joseph Castino of Port Arthur, brother-in-law Richard Mancil also of Port Arthur, eight grandchildren; Angie Mercer of Orange, Melanie Smith of Nacogdoches, Cecy Castino of Redlands, CA, Troy Cooley of San Antonio, TX, Sean Cooley of Bridge City, Aaron Castino of Mauriceville, Ashley Castino of Richardson, TX, Bryan Castino of Cheek, TX, great-grandson, JC Smith of Nacogdoches and nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
Tony earned an Associates Degree in Accounting from Lamar University, Honorable Discharged in 1946 from the US Army 259th Infantry serving in WWII as sergeant. Tony enjoyed sports being an avid follower of his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic minister and lector for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight in 1987. He was a member of Good Samaritan aka St. Vincent DePaul, Merry Mixers square dance club and was an Orange Christian Services volunteer. He was a very good natured man who enjoyed life and loved his family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Cooley, Sean Cooley, Aaron Castino, Bryan Castino, David Smith and James Williams.
