Val Crow

Val Crow, 91, former resident of Orange, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2008 in Spring, Texas, where she currently resided.
Graveside Service and Interment will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in Orange. Officiating will be the Reverend Lynn Ashcraft.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Val was born in Lamar County near Paris, Texas on September 20, 1916, to McCullen Boyd and Mary Elizabeth Nation Dotson. She married Robert A. Whitey Crow on October 7, 1940 in Austin Texas. They moved to Orange in 1942 where Val resided for 60 years. The past six years she lived in Houston with her daughter and son-in-law.
Val was a member of North Orange Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a news stand owner and hairdresser, she enjoyed the Gift and Thrift Shop in Orange where she quilted. She started the Lunch Bunch and had many great times with her good friends.
Val was preceded in death by her husband Robert Arlie "Whitey" Crow of 37 years in 1977; brother, L.M. Dotson; and sister, Melville Sims.
Val is survived by these family members who loved her dearly; daughter, Rita Pate; son-in-law, J.E. Pate; granddaughter, Valerie Pate; grandson, Alan Pate and wife Tracie Pate; great granddaughter, Sarah Pate of Magnolia; great-grandson, Chris Pate of Conroe; great- granddaughter, Heather Pate of Austin; sister-in-law, Gertrude Dotson of Orange, and numerous nieces and nephews.
