Velma Wright Young

Velma Wright Young, 94, of Orange, died Sunday, February 13, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Kevin Trinkle. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Pineland, Texas on January 3, 1927, to Herbert and Alla Smith Wright, Velma spent most of her life in Orange. She was a homemaker and nurse, and she retired from Orange Memorial Hospital after 23 years. She was a charter member of Drake Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Young; sisters, Ima Butler and Lillian Harrington; brothers, Louis Harris and Lester Wright; and daughter-in-law, Frances Young.

Velma is survived by her sons, James A. ?Jimmy? Young and his wife Jeanne of McLewis, and Stephen Young of Orange; grandchildren, Shane Young, Vicki Durden, Dawn Young, Joseph Young, and Christiana Young; great-grandchildren, James ?Deke? Durden, Autumn Durden, Kalli Curry, Keeley Gray, Jaycie Young, Shelby Young, and Leric and one other great-grandson; great great-granddaughter, Morgan Durden; and sister, Jeannine Swearington of Mission Viejo, CA.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Shane Young, Joseph Young, James ?Deke? Durden, Larry Harris, Tommy Conrad, and Randy Gore.

The family wishes to acknowledge with grateful appreciation the care and compassion provided by Mrs. Young?s caregiver, Kathy DeRosier.
