Vera Mae Eads, 103, of Orange, Texas, passed away on December 20, 2018, in Orange.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Jeff Bell. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange, Texas.
Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Born in Ritchey, Missouri, on November 29, 1915, she was the daughter of Claude Skaggs and Nina Harris Skaggs. Vera was a devoted member of Cove Baptist Church and served on their Bereavement Committee as well as their Kitchen Committee. Vera was an excellent seamstress and kept her children and grandchildren attired in the latest fashions. She was also a wonderful cook. Her family will miss her roast and noodles, fried potatoes, pickles, and apple cobbler. She enjoyed raising her children as well as helping to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as if they were her own. She loved to travel with her husband every year to visit her home state of Missouri. Family was the most important thing in Vera’s life and she loved them all dearly. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 51 years, Chester Eads; children, Katherine Eads Hyder and James Kenneth Eads; and her siblings, Harold Skaggs and Beatrice Dick.
Vera is survived by daughter-in-law, Linda Gail Boatman-Eads, of Orange; grandchildren, Richard Hyder and wife Debbie, of Orange, Lance Eads and wife Cheyenne, of Orange, Greg Hyder and wife Denise, of Wylie, Chris Hyder and wife Heidi, of Orange and Chad Boatman, of Orange; great-grandchildren, Jessi Hyder, of Wimberly, Landon Eads, Cameron Eads, Tagen Eads, all of Orange, Austin Hyder, Corwin Hyder, Nathan Hyder, and Reagan Hyder, all of Wylie; along with nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Hyder, Lance Eads, Chad Boatman, and Landon Eads.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society at PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or Cove Baptist Church at 1005 DuPont Dr. Orange, TX 77630.
