Vera Belle Hammerly Brister

Vera Belle Hammerly Brister, 89, of Orange, Texas died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Magnolia Place in Liberty.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2010, at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Orange. Officiating will be Judge Dennis Powell.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Thursday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Orange, Texas on August 12, 1921, Vera was the daughter of Ida Irene Broomes and Charles Roy Hammerly. She worked as a CNA at Orange Memorial Hospital, and loved to work in her garden. She was a member of McDonald Memorial Baptist Church and played the ukulele at Fairdale Baptist Church in Hemphill.

Preceded in death by her husband, John Nelon "Neil" Brister, Vera is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gloria Jo and Tom Swift of Liberty; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sherilyn Brister of Orange; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Colton Hudnall, Tommy Swift, John Brister, Kent Broussard, Eric Fregia, and Eric Hudnall.
