Verlin Doyel Ballard, 74, of Orange, passed away on May 6, 2017, in Port Arthur.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Cremation will follow and is under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home.
Visitation will precede the service starting at 12:00 PM.
Born in Sulphur, Louisiana, on June 9, 1942, he was the son of Lester Glenmore Ballard and Alieta Annie (Etzel) Ballard. Verlin was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked as a machinist for A. Schulman. For over 20 years, he was a volunteer fireman for Bridge City Fire Department where he was a mechanic and pump truck operator. He loved fishing and enjoyed hunting every year with his brother. He was a very giving man and a good man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Norma G. Ballard, parents, and siblings.
He is survived by his children, Elwin “Bo” Ballard, Sr. and wife, Tammy, of Mauriceville, TX, Alieta Verna “Lee” Burns of Orange, TX, Joseph Adam “So Big” Ballard and wife, Shannon, of Bridge City, TX, and Telicia Foster and husband, Drew, of Bridge City, TX; eight grandchildren, Christina Renee Wallace, Donald Ray Waller, Jr., Elwin Ray Ballard, Jr., Cody Kyle Ballard and wife, Sarah, Sara Lynn Ballard, Paul Moore, Jr., Melissa Lynn Overstreet, and Christina Stafford; and six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for the excellent care they gave Mr. Ballard.
