Verneice Parnell Davis, 100, a former longtime resident of Beaumont, died Sunday, November 18, 2018, at her residence in Webster, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018, in the chapel of Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont. Officiating will be Reverend Rick Ivey, senior pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church in Beaumont. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
Pallbearers will be Reese Huffaker, Ron Huffaker, Gaby Gebrael, Scott Parnell, Shane Parnell and Slade Parnell.
The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Born in Baldwin, Louisiana on January 23, 1918, Verneice was the daughter of Arthur J. Prevost and Elvige (Clements) Prevost. She was a graduate of Beaumont High School and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Beaumont.
She was an artist and had a love for painting and sewing. She was an excellent cook and made the best homemade candy and jellies. She even had the honor of being named Grand Champion Gumbo winner.
Verneice enjoyed playing Bridge, fishing, crabbing and traveling and she had a special gift of growing plants.
Verneice was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Alva Parnell, Jr.; second husband, Howard Davis; and five siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Zoch and her husband, Danny of Seabrook; son, Don Parnell and his wife, Linda of Winnie; grandchildren, Rani Huffaker and her husband, Ron of Houston, Scott Parnell and his wife, Rachelle of Winnie, Shelley Parnell-Gebrael and her husband, Gaby of Missouri City.
She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Reese Huffaker, Shane Parnell and Slade Parnell; sister, Janelle Vest-Sharp of Beaumont; and brother, Edward Prevost and his wife, Linda of Floresville.
