Vernon Lee Montgomery, Jr., 83, of Orange, Texas, passed away on November 12, 2025, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Damon Bickham. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Cedar Park Cemetery in Cedar Park, Texas.

Visitation will begin prior to the service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2025, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Midland, Texas, on November 24, 1941, he was the son of Vernon Lee Montgomery, Sr. and Minnie Mildred (Porch) Montgomery. He lived a life filled with devotion to his faith and family, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Vernon had a successful career in Plumbing Design and proudly served in the United States Army. He was known for his strong religious beliefs, expressing his love for God and his family. He served as a Deacon and Elder at Westover Hill Church of Christ, as well as several other churches, where he made lasting contributions to his community and church family. In his personal life, Vernon loved coaching his children in sports, fostering their interests and passions. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly golfing and hunting. He had a fond appreciation for westerns and held a special place in his heart for the Indians, Wolves, and Eagles. He is remembered for his compassionate spirit, dedication to his family, and the love he shared so freely throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Vernon Montgomery, Sr.; granddaughter, Bliss Payne; first wife, Laraine Kay Montgomery; second wife, Mary Frances Montgomery.

He is survived by his daughter, Leah K. Payne and husband Skip; son, Vernon Lance Montgomery; stepdaughter, Barbara Hanson; grandchild, Dakota Payne and wife Kristal; step-grandchildren, Lauren Hansen, and Joshua Alcorn; great grandchildren, Jailyn Brown and Paisley Brown; sister, Cindy Killingsworth and husband Roger; brother-in-law, Rex Frasier; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lopez, Cullin Smith, Roger Killingsworth and sons, Roger, Brennan, Blake, Mike Meyers, Lyle Welty, Shane Woodruff, Kaston Flowers, Trenton Graves, and Parker Norwood.

So sorry for you guys loss! I worked at oak grove and Mr. Vernon was a joy! He put a smile on my face everyday I walked in room 709. He loved talking about when he was a deacon and how he loved serving the Lord. Every time I leave the room, I loved to her him say, where you going I love you😭😭❤️❤️ I know we shouldn’t have a favor patient because all of them need love but he was my favorite. lol He was truly were my buddy❤️ Oh yea buddy I finally went back to SC. lol
