Violet Margaret Spell

Violet Margaret Spell, 89, died on November 24, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home's temporary location at 1408 W. Park Ave in Orange. Reverend Mike Umbenhauer of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 28, 2008 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Orange.
Mrs. Spell was born on December 6, 1918, in Crowley, LA. She met and married Eugene William Spell, known to everyone as "Blackie" and they were married for 63 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grand, great and great-great grandmother. She found comfort in her kitchen where her family and friends enjoyed many of her home cooked meals. It always filled her with great joy when her family was around her. Next to the love for her family was her love of listening and two stepping to Cajun music; whenever she heard the music, her foot went to tapping.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Blackie Spell; parents, Alford and Elta Perry; infant son, Donald Eugene; sisters, Kathleen Young and Flora Perry; son–in-law, Norvin Matthis and a great granddaughter, Kaci Dischler.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Matthis, Dot Foyle and husband James, and Carolyn Colburn and husband Jeep all of Orange. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Donny and Tamara Mayo, Kimm and Buddy Benson, Stacey and Richard Ellis, Brent and Sharon Matthis, J.J.Colburn and Kelly and Steve Dischler. She leaves numerous great and great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and one sister, Melba Duhon of Buna.
The family would like to give special thanks to Maudra Jones, Rose Johnson and Betty Odom for their devoted and loving care of our mother during the last two years of her life. The family would also like to thank Dr. Amsden and staff, all the nurses, and Flo King of Southeast Texas Hospice for the wonderful care. Memorials may be made to S.E. Texas Hospice.
Pallbearers will be J.J. Colburn, Donny Mayo, Brent Matthis, Richard Ellis, Steve Dischler and Ethan Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Dischler, Cameron Dischler, Adam Ellis, and Garrett Romero.
