Virginia Downs Robinson

Virginia Downs Robinson, 92, of Orange, died Monday, January 3, 2011, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Tom Stephenson and Reverend Tony Miller. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on January 28, 1918, she was the daughter of Winifred Winona Minard and Harry Rutherford Downs. She was a 1939 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and in 1967, received her master's degree from the University of Denver.
Mrs. Robinson was a teacher and librarian with the Bridge City and West Orange-Cove school districts. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Orange and had been a Gray Lady volunteer with Baptist Hospital in Orange.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Lyndon H. Robinson, Sr. and her son, Paul E. Robinson.
She is survived by her son, Lyndon Robinson, Jr. and his wife, Minnie of Redlands, California; daughter, Carol Jane Allen and her husband, Jimmie of Orange; grandchildren, Debra Pyle, Nancy Devine, Matthew Allen and Stephen Allen, Sr.
Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Stephen Allen, Jr., Caitlin Allen, John Allen, Joey Allen, Josh Allen, Naomi Devine, Drew Devine and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Allen, Sr., Stephen Allen, Jr., Matthew Allen, John Allen, Don Grooms and Jim Brown.
