Walter August Chamel, Jr.
Walter August Chamel, Jr., 82, of Orange, passed away in Orange.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Joseph P. Daleo. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Sunday with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Walter was born on January 20, 1927, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the son of Walter A. and Stella Hebert Chamel, Sr.
Walter worked many years in the wholesale sporting goods business. His longest tenure was at the Sabine Supply Company. He also managed the Saint Mary Catholic Church Cemetery for twenty five years.
He was a faithful member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Orange for seventy years, was a life time member of the Orange Lions Club, and a member of the American Legion. He was also instrumental in establishing Little League Baseball in Orange.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Chamel; and sister, Joan Chamel Civello.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Ruth Chamel Haas of New Orleans, LA; and brother, William Chamel of Metarie, LA.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Lee Roy Boehme, Jr., Samuel Simon, Raymond Smith, David Boehme, Terry LeBouef, and Paul LeBouef.
