Walter Douglas “Tuny” Bland, Jr., 88, of Mauriceville, died, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Oakwood Manor Nursing Center in Vidor.
A private graveside service will be held at Bland Cemetery in Orange with Reverend Bo Owens officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and Southeast Texas Veteran’s Service Group.
Born in Mauriceville on November 27, 1928, Tuny was the son of Walter Douglas Bland, Sr. and Lucille (Bourgeois) Bland. He was a veteran of the United Sates Army where he attained the rank of Corporal and he retired as a Foreman from DuPont Sabine River Works.
Tuny was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Freda Joyce Bland.
He is survived by his wife, Gayle Bland of Mauriceville; son, Ronnie Bland and his wife, Pam, of Toledo Bend; daughter, Brenda Phillips and her husband, Johnny, of Orange; son, Todd Owen and his wife, Debbie, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Scott Bland and his wife, Wanda, of Houston, Shaun Bland and his wife, Mikko, of Houston, Spanky Phillips and his wife, Rina, of Houston, Rebecca Evans and her husband, Jeremy, of Tempe, Arizona, and Kyle Owen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; great grandchildren, Baker Phillips, Silas Bland, Skyler Bland and Leah Evans.
Tuny is also survived by his brothers, Wesley “Bubby” Bland and his wife, Sylvia, of Orange and Francis K. Bland and his wife, Francis, of Buna.
Arrangements are under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
