Dearly beloved father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, Watson Harrison Collins, went to be with the Lord on March 27, 2009, in Bridge City, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Bridge City. Reverends Barry Murchison and Jack Comer will officiate. Graveside services and interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Holly Grove Cemetery in Livingston, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Bridge City.
The oldest son of Reverend Richard Monroe Collins and Minilia Ellen Collins, he was born on May 12, 1908 in Segno, Texas, Polk County. He was reared and lived in the Polk and Liberty County areas until 1994 when he and his wife, Ida Mae Moorman Collins, moved to Bridge City to be near their children. Watson was a Reforester and retired from Kirby Lumber Co.
Watson was an ordained deacon for over 50 years, taught Sunday School and enjoyed singing in church quartets. He enjoyed all music activities for many years in Baptist churches and was currently a member of Circle Drive Baptist Church in Bridge City.
Watson took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always took time to spend time outdoors, camping, gardening and having conversation with each one to know what they were doing in their lives.
Watson was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Collins; parents, Richard Monroe and Minilia Collins; brother, Addie Collins; sister Lavaler Rhodes; son-in-law, Bobby Starkey and daughter-in-law, Delores Kennedy.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, D.C. and Bernice Collins of Houston; brother, Mann Collins of Rye.
He is also survived by his children and their spouses; Kenneth Kennedy of Dallas, Ellen and Bill Nickum, Betty Starkey, Harold and Teresa Collins, all of Bridge City and Kevin and Carolyn Blanton of Houston.
Also surviving are his ten grandchildren, Angela Haynes, Alyson Simth, John Nickum, Patrick Starkey, Crystal Starkey, Jeffrey Collins, Chris Collins, Don Harp, Melissa Satler and Carolyn Jowell; five step grandchildren, Judd Simth, Ellick McCann, Robert McCann, Kyle Blanton, Kurt Blanton; twenty great grandchildren, Caleb, Catelynn and Cameron Haynes, Kelsey, Kollin and Kaylea Smith, Coleman, Nate and Abigail Nickum, Mason and Isabel Starkey, Tyler, Jacob, Chloe and Brady Collins, Nolan and Nathan Harp, Makeala and Makenzie Sattler and Cailyn Elmore.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Nickum, Jeffrey Collins, Chris Collins, Don Harp, Kevin Smith, Cliff Haynes and Tony Sattler.
