Bill was the son of John Clarence and Louise (Riley) Hughes. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and went on to spend many loyal years as a Mechanical Engineer at Dupont Sabine River Works from where he retired. He was formerly on the Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors for Sabine Federal Credit Union. Bill devoted his life to Christ and was a former member of Cove Baptist Church in Orange. He was passionate about the Bible and went on to spread God’s word by teaching adult Sunday School at several local Baptist churches in the area. Bill was very involved in the local community and was a common sight at Spanky’s and Old Orange Cafe. The employees even knew him by name. He enjoyed reading, automobiles, and keeping up with new technology. Bill was an amazing man, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, John Clarence and Louise (Riley) Hughes; and wives, Betty Hughes and Elva Lois Hughes.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Janette Hill and husband, Jimmy, of Dayton, Texas and Kathleen Hughes of Orange, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Hill and wife, J-Lynne; and James Hill and wife, Chasity; great-grandchildren, Jacob Hill, Brandin Hill, Molly Collier, Olivia Collier, and Juniper Hill; brothers, Marvin Hughes and wife, Maureen “Mo”; and John Edward Hughes and wife, Carole. After his marriage to Lois, he extended his family to include step-sons, Kenneth Dougherty and wife, Stacy; Alan Dougherty and wife, Sherrie; and Wayne Dougherty; grandchildren, Samantha Dougherty, Patrick Dougherty, Kristie Dougherty, Kelsi Dougherty, Krysta Dougherty, Kasey Dougherty, and Emmie Dougherty; as well as many other loving family and friends.

For those who are inclined to send condolences, just as Bill was rooted in the Lord, the family would prefer plants that are rooted in a pot.

Knew Bill from Berachah Church, Houston, TX. He was a fine, Christian man. Bill has been promoted to heaven and is eternally happy with loved ones who have also accepted Christ as their personal Savior and preceded Bill in joining the Lord in their permanent heavenly home. Condolences to his family and in deep sympathy, Polly Hardee
