William James O'Quinn

August 13, 1954 — October 19, 2008

William James O'Quinn, 54, of Beaumont, died Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Herman Memorial Baptist Hospital.
He was born August 13, 1954, in Natchitoches, LA, to John Wilbur O'Quinn, a merchant marine during WWII and Gisela Hanna Rahtjen O'Quinn, of Breman, Germany and was the only son and brother to 3 older sisters. He enjoyed his earliest years on a cotton farm along the banks of the Bayou Dorbonne and later was a resident for many years of Vidor. He joined the military service in 1971 and was stationed at an intelligence base in Alaska.
James was truly a free spirit who enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, metal detecting and wood working. His special passion was fishing and of course, the many fish fries that followed! He had a love for animals, watching the history channel and sitting down for coffee with valued friends and family for conversation.
He worked as a bookkeeper for many years with his beloved mother in the family owned business, Custom Enterprises.
He later moved to Town Bluff, and after suffering a stroke, moved to Beaumont. Life was truly a journey for James and those who really knew him recognized the loyalty, intelligence and true dedication he had for his close fiends and family. Becoming handicapped especially taught him much about what really mattered in his life- God, family, good friends and good health. He will be missed, but never forgotten, by those who loved him.
James is survived by his daughter, Katchen "Katie" O'Quinn and her mother Julian Lightfoot and her husband Carl all of Beaumont and sisters, Anna Cady and husband Mike of Spring, Candy Smith and husband Jimmy of Vidor and Pat Molanders and husband Ed of Colmesneil. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, David Scott, Kay Tinkle, Wendy Smith Harris, Gina Johnson, Job Allen Smith, Partrick O'Fiel and Ed Molanders III and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Claybar Kelley-Watkins Chapel.

Life is not surviving the storm, but dancing in the rain!
