Winifred Marie Andrus

October 14, 1915 — January 28, 2008

Winifred Marie Andrus passed away Monday, January 28, 2008, at The Oaks of Beaumont Nursing Home at the age of 92 years. The funeral service will be held at Sabine Tabernacle, Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Andrus was born November 14, 1915 in Leesville, Louisiana, but lived most of her life in Beaumont. She was preceded in death be her Mother, Mattie Martha Mann, Father, Oscar E. Mann, five sisters; Ercelle Katherine Andrus, Macel Zander, Velma Druschke, Willie Mae Morris, and Beatrice Loep.
Mrs. Andrus worked n the credit department at Sears for a number of years. But she had a desire to do something more with her life. So at the age of 45, and with only a 6th grade education, she enrolled at Lamar University’s nursing program, studied hard, and became a licensed vocational nurse. After St. Elizabeth Hospital was built, Mrs. Andrus was one of the first nurses hired to work at the new facility. She loved nursing and was a comfort to many during her many years at St. Elizabeth.
Mrs. Andrus was a faithful member of Sabine Tabernacle for over fifty years. Her love for the Lord and her concern for the spiritual welfare of her five sisters was evidenced by the many prayers she prayed for them. Soon those prayers were answered, for all those dear sisters came to know the Lord and faithfully served Him just as their sister Marie. And now she has joined those dear sisters, along with her precious Mother and Father in a grand homecoming in Heaven, never to part again.
Mrs. Andrus is survived by her daughter, Betty Marie Brown, and her son-in-law, Tom A. Brown; one granddaughter, Joy Lynn Brown, and one great-granddaughter, Laura Kathleen Brown. Mrs. Andrus also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the nurses at Harbor Hospice House for the compassionate care given Mrs. Andrus during the short time she as there. We also thank the nurses at The Oaks facility for helping Mrs. Andrus in so many ways while she was a patient there. But we especially appreciate the compassion and love shown by Lori Samuels, Mrs. Andrus’s hospice nurse. Lori, you went the extra mile for her. We will never forget you.
Mother, you’ve finished your course, you have kept the faith – We’ll see you in Heaven.
