Winston B. Harris

A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Winston B. Harris, 89, passed away Monday, February 1, 2010 in Beaumont, TX with his loving family at his side.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with services following at 2:30 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Bob Shield and Rev. Vicky Peters with interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Winston was born on September 26, 1920 in Wharton, Texas. He later graduated from Wharton High School and attended Schreiner College. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II serving on the USS Goshen. Upon completion of service, he returned to Wharton, Texas and began his career with Texas Gulf Sulphur until he retired with over 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Florence Bernice Harris, his parents, Samuel G. Harris, Texas Ranger and Sunshine Della Harris, and his sister, Madeline Harris Muir. He is survived by his sister-in-law Chrissy Johnson and husband, J.C. Johnson of Port Neches, Texas; five children Winston E. Harris and fiance Jill Purkey of Baton Rouge, LA, Barbara J. Kindermann and husband Dieter Kindermann of Louisville, KY, Steven G. Harris and wife Charlotte Harris of Raleigh, NC, Richard W. Harris and wife Cindy Harris of Houston, TX, and Lynn M. Harris and wife Marcia Harris of Lumberton, TX; eleven grandchildren, Amy Crawford, Christi Luskin, Chad Clark, Stephanie Sneeden, Conner Harris, Charles Kindermann, Trevor Harris, Blake Harris, Todd Harris, Cameron Harris and Parker Harris; and four great grandchildren, Taylor Crawford, Jordan Crawford, Jackson Luskin and Emma Clark.
After retiring, he and his wife Bernice traveled the United States in their RV and developed long lasting friendships wherever they went. His hobbies and special interests included playing golf, following his favorite sports teams and a good card game of any kind. He never knew a stranger and his tenderness will be missed by all.
