Flora “Flo” Morgan Melton of Orange, TX passed away on September 3, 2020 in Beaumont, TX. She was born August 30, 1930 in England, AR and was the youngest daughter of Jack Henry Morgan, Sr. and Beulah Frances Crabb. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The family moved to Oak Grove, LA. when she was a young child. Following graduation from high school, Flo attended and graduated from Louisiana Tech University where she met her future husband, Joe Thurmond Melton. They married May 31, 1952 in Oak Grove. During their 50-year marriage, they lived in several places in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas, gathering friends and making memories along the way. Flo was an elementary school teacher and was an inspiration to hundreds of young minds during her teaching career. She was of the Baptist faith and a 60 plus year member of the Order of The Eastern Star.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by brothers John, Sam, Frank and Jack Morgan, Jr.; sisters Pearl Morgan Sharpe and Estelle Morgan Taylor; and, grandson, Tyler Wayne Melton, Sr. Survivors include her sons, David Joe Melton and wife, Maria, of Bunker Hill WV; Karl Dean Melton and wife, Dorette, of Silver Spring, MD; and, Kenneth Wayne Melton of Orange, TX. Other survivors include granddaughter, Shelly Melton Butler and husband, David, of Fulshear, TX; grandsons John David Melton of Lake Charles, LA; and Geoffrey Connor Melton of Fort Worth, TX; great grandsons, Blake Cameron and Jacob Michael Butler and Tyler Wayne Melton, Jr.; and, great granddaughters Anabelle Elaine Melton and Taylor Joe Melton. There are also several surviving nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. A visitation period will begin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home & Family Ministries, PO Box 4196, Monroe, Louisiana 71211.
