Jessie Weatherford Cammack Conn

Jessie Weatherford Cammack Conn was born August 14, 1915, and died Monday, June 11, 2012, at Golden Years in Orange at the age of 96.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, at Calvary Baptist Church, 2402 Western Avenue, West Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend David Millner, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in West Orange. Graveside service will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, at Pineland Cemetery in Pineland, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Jessie was known as "Miss Jessie" and was the daughter of Nath and Ida Parker Weatherford. She was a 1934 graduate of Pineland High School in Pineland, Texas. She worked for several years in public work at the various grocery stores, including Temple's Grocery and Temple Drug Store. She also worked at the theater, and worked in the plant at the old planer mill during World War II days.

Jessie was a volunteer worker in the Pineland schools and received a lifetime membership in the P.T.A. and honorary membership in both the Future Homemakers of America and Young Homemakers of Texas. In 1964, the West Sabine Parent Teacher Association dedicated its yearbook to her. She helped in Vacation Bible Schools at all the churches of any faith.

Jessie was known as "Aunt Jessie" in Orange, and was a resident of the West Orange area since 1980. She became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in 1980, and was a beloved friend to members of all ages. She worked in the nursery at Calvary Baptist for 19 years. After retiring from the nursery, she served as a Sunday School teacher of the 18 month-2 years old preschool class until 2002. She was a member of the Old Friends Senior Adult organization at Calvary Baptist Church, and was in charge of registration and door prizes. Aunt Jessie was also was a teacher's assistant in Discipleship Training for Preschool children for 10 years. She was a helper in the nursery for MOPS Mothers of Preschoolers. Jessie worked in her first Vacation Bible School at Calvary Baptist Church in 1981, and continued to work each year for over 19 years.

Jessie was also active in R.S.V.P. Retired and Senior Volunteer Program for over 30 years and worked in the volunteer office in the West Orange-Cove School District over 29 years. She is the author of book, Leaves of Life, which is based on the Bible, and also had poetry published in Today's Famous Poems on the Wings of Pegasus in 2003 by the Famous Poets Society.

Preceded in death by her nephew, Reverend Kenneth Earl Weatherford, Jessie is survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Weatherford; niece, Phyllis Weatherford and her children, Edward Weatherford, Reverend Philip Weatherford, Kenny Weatherford, Jonathan Weatherford, and Elizabeth Weatherford Warren; cousins, Estil Johnson and Keith Johnson; and is also survived by her adopted family members Sara Dumas of Gilmer, Texas; John C. Erdos; Phil Yocom and Carrie Yocom of Hemphill, Texas; Jeff Yocom of Gilmer, Texas; Michel and Melissa Yocom of New Braunfels, Texas; Louise Flurry, Lia Frederick, Nelda Burns, and Sandy Amy all of West Orange, Texas; and Marie Scruggs.

Jessie is also survived by her nieces, Kay Weatherford Drane and husband, Russell of Victoria, Donna Weatherford Awalt and husband, Jake of Victoria, and Gayle Weatherford Seerden and husband, Tom of Sugarland.
