Larry Custer, 83, of Vidor, TX passed away on June 20, 2019, in Vidor, TX.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont, TX.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June, 26, 2019 at Christian Fellowship in Beaumont, TX. Officiating will be Pastor Rick White of Christian Fellowship.
Born in Hempstead, Texas, on October 26, 1935, he was the only son of Edward Wallace Custer and Nannie Grace (Ayres) Custer. Larry served in the United States Army. Later, he worked in sales and marketing and retired from Sam’s Club after 30 years of employment.
Larry’s personality was bigger than life, if you met him once you were his friend. He never met a stranger! After being with Larry, you always felt better, you never felt worse, he may have even given you a nickname! Larry was always smiling, happy, and fun-loving. His love of God, family and others was obvious to everyone. Larry was actively involved in his church, Christian Fellowship, and was happiest when he was visiting in hospitals, nursing homes, and ministering to people in their times of need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Grace Custer and his younger sister, Merleen Custer Cowling.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dolores Ames Custer of Vidor, Texas; daughter, Melissa Custer Boyett and husband, Neil Boyett of Vidor, Texas; son, Jon Custer and wife, Lisa Woodson Custer of Bixby, Oklahoma. His grandchildren: Trenton Boyett, Luke Custer, and Hadley Custer; his older sister, Marian Nan Custer Godfrey of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jon Custer, Ken Custer, Jerry Waldrop, Larry McCown, Rex Reavis, M.L. “Bubba” Reese, Jimmy Ray Thomas, and Charles Crabbe.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Hanson, Bill Griffin, Randy Kura, Kell Jones, Buddy Richards, Hollis Vaughn, Ernest Brown, Bob Morgan, Joe Finley, Ken Simmons, and Robert Earl Courville.
