Lucille Roberts Mathis

Funeral services for Lucille Roberts Mathis, 88, of Beaumont will be held on Thursday, August 9, at 3:00 p.m. in the Claybar Kelley Watkins Chapel. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3:00 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
Mrs. Mathis was born June 19, 1924 in Crowley, Louisiana to the late Leslie Russell Roberts and Marjorie Josephine Lewis Roberts and passed away August 6, 2012 in Beaumont. She was a graduate of Crowley High School and attended Southwest Louisiana Institute.
Mrs. Mathis resided in Beaumont since 1961 and worked beside her late husband, Clay Mathis, in their insurance company. She was an active member in the DAR where she served as Regent and she was a proud member of the Beaumont Founder's Lioness Club. Mrs. Mathis was a devoted member of First Baptist Church where she taught in the adult Sunday School department for many years.
She is survived by her son, Russell "Rusty" Mathis and his wife, Rosemary, of Beaumont; daughter, Carra Jo Alston and her husband, Phillip, of Kingwood; sister, Marjorie Jo Yeomans of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Marjorie Grace Mathis, Allen Clay Mathis and wife, Amy, Emily Anne Mathis, Caraline Hope Alston; and great-grandson, Cohen Clay Mathis.
