Morris A. Hoss Miller

Morris A. ?Hoss? Miller, 84, of Mauriceville, died Friday, April 8, 2011, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, in the chapel of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange with the Reverend James White officiating. Masonic graveside rites will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends from noon until service time.

Born in Douglas on October 27, 1926, Mr. Miller was the son of Walter L. and Lovice Leonard Miller. He was a retired boilermaker and was a former Business Agent for Boilermaker?s Local 587.

Mr. Miller was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII having attained the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He served aboard the USS LST 398 and the USS Frank E. Evans. He was a member of Madison Lodge 126 AF&AM in Orange and had been a Master Mason and member of the Grand Lodge of Texas for over 50 years.

Mr. Miller bred and raised Thoroughbred horses and was a member of the Louisiana Race Horse Association. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed meeting the ?Retiree?s? for coffee every morning at McDonald?s.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Reba and his sisters Lillian Easley, Ruth Bobbitt and Mary Hutson.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Terrell Vance of Mauriceville; granddaughter, Shanna Sheppard and her husband Windel, Jr.; grandson, Bobby Vance and his wife Angela; great grandchildren, Savannah Sheppard, McKenzie Sheppard, Corbett Vance and Tyler Williams; and his special companion, Norma Addison of Deweyville.

Mr. Miller is also survived by sisters, Mildred Tucker of Lufkin, Freddie Havard and her husband Glen of Lufkin; brothers, W.L. Miller, Jr. and his wife Judy of Burke, James Miller and his wife Dorris of Marshall, Larry Miller of Lufkin; brother-in-law, Floyd Jones and his wife Carolyn of Hudson; sister-in-law, Gladys Metlen of Diboll and numerous nieces and nephews.
