Morton Curtice was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Morton Augusta Curtice and Sadie Curtice on December 29, 1938. He spent most of his childhood life in Port Arthur and Nederland. After graduating from Bishop Byrne High School in 1958, Morton soon met Mary Katherine Palique and they were married in 1959. He started his career as a barber at Village Barber Shop and soon became recognized as a prestigious Hairstylist. In 1976 he established Curtice & Company that became a very popular, well-recognized barber shop in Beaumont (customers called him Curtice). Curtice was proud of his Flat-Tops and would comment that if I can’t land a plane on it, it’s not a good haircut.
Curtice served the Beaumont community by participating in the National Guard, YMBL, and Knights of Columbus #951. He would provide free haircuts to the elderly, children’s first haircut, high school football players and to customers in the hospital.
Curtice enjoyed people and was extremely happy at his 50th Wedding Anniversary party and at his Retirement party where many customers paid tribute to him. At work, he excelled at making his customers feel comfortable in the chair and at home he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
The family would like to thank all customers for their patronage throughout the years, where they were more than customers to Curtice, they were friends.
Curtice, 74, went home to Jesus after a long fight with congestive heart failure. He is survived by his wife Katherine Curtice, sons Dewayne and Steven Curtice, 4 grandchildren Lacy McDonald, Grayson Hogue, Tyler and Elizabeth Curtice. He was preceded in death by his mother, brother, Charles Curtice and daughter, Liz Curtice Hogue.
Serving as pallbearers will be: J. K. Petterway, Gene Bougeois, Larry Nunez, Harold Norris, William Oglesbee and Tom Raborn.
