Robert Clifford Blackstone, 75, of Beaumont reposed in Christ at 11:20 am on Monday, July 1, 2013, in the intensive care unit of Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in, Beaumont.
“Dr. Bob”, as he was known to his friends, was born on December 14, 1937, in New Orleans, LA, the first child of Francis B. Blackstone and Ann Dorothy McMillen Blackstone. He grew up in Port Sulfur , LA, and following high school graduation, he went on to study at Rice University and Florida State University, where he earned a doctorate in chemistry. His work with DuPont corporation brought him to the Beaumont area in 1975. After more than thirty years with DuPont, Dr. Bob applied his expertise as an independent chemical consultant.
Bob enjoyed reading and travel, cultivating his lifelong interest in science and history. He took delight in growing oranges and lemons in his backyard garden and was sure to be present whenever good food and good conversation could be found. A faithful Christian, Bob worshipped at Christian Fellowship Worship Center, and prior to that, at Cathedral in the Pines. He participated actively in Christian outreach, assisting in leadership of the single adult ministry and caring for orphans in the former Soviet Union. He is remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, stability, intelligence, and insight.
He is survived by Stephanie Blackstone, his wife of 25 years; two sisters, Mary Ann Phillips of Bastrop, LA and Sally Stewart of Houston, TX, and one brother, Bill Blackstone of Natchez, MS; four children, Richard Blackstone of Beaumont, Rebecca Fincher of Elkhart. KS, Jason Halbert of Nashville TN, and Steven Halbert of Beaumont, and ten grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 4, at Christian Fellowship Worship Center, 3950 Pointe Parkway, Beaumont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the benevolences fund at Christian Fellowship.
