William Tim Edgar

August 12, 1924 — April 7, 2017

William Tim Edgar was born on Tuesday, August 12, 1924 in Remlig, Texas to Edith Gertrude Edgar and William Tilman Edgar. Tim had five brothers, Willard, Dempsey, Wayne, Truett, and Tommy, and one sister, Billie Jean. In 1941 at age 16, Tim graduated valedictorian from Warren High School. He then moved to Beaumont to attend Chenier Business College and to work for the Texas Highway Department. During World War II, Tim was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in France and Germany until Germany surrendered. He was then deployed to the Pacific to be part of the force preparing to invade Japan. After Japan’s surrender, Tim was part of the forces which occupied Japan. In March of 1946, he was discharged from the Army at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Once home from the war, Tim attended Lamar College then the University of Texas in Austin. After graduating in May 1949 from UT with an accounting degree, he returned to Beaumont to take a job with Sun Oil Company. Tim married Dorothy Lee Wiltz in October 1949 and became both a CPA and a father in 1951. Tim and Dorothy’s family eventually grew to 5 children, 16 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Tim truly had a wonderful and blessed life. He was a founding member of the CPA firm of Edgar, Kiker, and Cross, where he had the privilege of working with and for some remarkable men and women. Through the years, he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Royal Ambassador leader, a Gideon, Lions Club member, a member of the Texas Society of CPA’s Ethics Committee, member and past President of the Southeast Texas Chapter of the Texas Society of CPA’s, board member of Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, trustee of the Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary, member of the State Missions Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and longtime member of Woodland Baptist Church and Magnolia Avenue Baptist prior to its merging with Woodland. Tim was a friend, brother, son, father, husband, and most importantly, a devoted Christian man. Perhaps his greatest gift to his family was creating the strong Christian family environment that has continued for almost 70 years. Moreover, Tim was a generous man who believed in hard work, integrity, the value of a good education, and most of all, serving his Lord and Savior and fellow man.
When asked about his favorite hobbies, Tim said working and fishing. That’s probably why he worked until he was 90 years young. During his career, Tim and his long time best friend, Paul Cormier, began a 25-year long real estate venture developing subdivisions in the Bridge City area. He also loved playing 42 and going out to the country in Warren, Texas to clear and burn brush. Tim and Dorothy even built a barn on their land in Warren to celebrate their large family Christmases and other gatherings.
Tim leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Lee Edgar, and five children: Cathy, Beth, Robert, Carol, and Ellen. He also leaves five wonderful in-laws, Xavier, Glen, Sherra, Lloyd, and Jim. Tim and Dorothy have 16 grandchildren: Jason and wife Kendra, Adam and wife Bobbie, Eric, Josh and wife Shannon, Jacob, Jennifer and husband Jake, Sarah and husband Israel, Daniel, John and wife Tiffany, Nathan, Riley, Stephanie and husband Luke, David, Laura and husband Ryan, Lauren, and Katherine. They also have 18 great-grandchildren: Gavin, Jeremiah, Eleni, Mikayla, Alexis, Aurora, Audrey, Clark, Alex, Elle, Margot, Peyton, Greenlee, Charlotte, Calvin, Lucy Kate, Max, Barrett, and soon to be baby boy Warner.
In addition, Tim leaves behind his beloved sister, Billie Jean Veal, her husband, Bob, caring sister-in-law Doris Edgar, many wonderful nieces and nephews, and numerous treasured friends. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Tim’s caregivers, Tamesha Calloway and Tanya Rhodes, who faithfully cared for Tim during his final illness. Tim’s family is comforted to know he has left us to be with God and is free from any pain and suffering. He met the deadline.
